tips for out-of-network insurance
Inquire with your insurance provider
I recommend all clients call the number on the back of their insurance card and ask the following questions:
Does my plan include “out-of-network” coverage for mental health?
What is my annual deductible for mental health benefits?
What is my co-insurance? (What percentage does the plan cover?)
Is there a limit on the number of sessions my plan will cover per year?
Learn how to submit super bills
A super bill is a specific form that can be used to request reimbursement from your insurance. This can be auto-generated by my records system. I recommend contacting your insurance about the proper way to submit these bills for approval.
Use Mentaya
I also partner with Mentaya, a company that will advocate on your behalf to your insurance company to get you effective and expedited reimbursement for therapy appointments based on your out-of-network benefits (if your plan includes them).
Mentaya is perfect if you:
• Have out-of-network benefits
• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!
Here's how it works:
1. Sign up for Mentaya: Click here for my unique invite link.
2. I will enter your sessions into the platform.
3. Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.
4. You get reimbursed by insurance!
Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies. They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.
If you think out-of-network insurance reimbursement may be a good option for you or have further questions, please indicate so in your inquiry email.
